When I asked Marybeth and Leighton what was important to them about their engagement photos, this is what they told me: “I want to capture the sweet journey we are going through. I want to have photos that will capture our memories and photos we can look back on to remember the ‘young love.’ We want photos that we can share with others to celebrate the anticipation of our wedding.” And we completely nailed it!
We planned a fall engagement photo session in October for these guys, but we got lucky with a warm season and it ended up being more of an end of summer engagement session! We started out the evening at the Federal Building downtown. This was one of the locations I had sent over to them during our planning, because they wanted something a little bit more classic! They went with a black and white color scheme for this location and it ended up so beautiful with the columns and architecture of the courthouse.

After the courthouse, we made a quick stop at the church they’re getting married at this summer. They’ve taken selfies going to church together throughout their time dating and thought it would be so fun to get a photo at their engagement session there, and then one on wedding day too!
And then we finished up at the waterfront. This was actually a spot that they found on an evening walk together, and sent over to me. We timed it perfect and got the transition from golden hour to blue hour! For this spot, they changed into their second outfit, going with shades of blue for their engagement photo color palette. I loved the contrast with the grass, and the way their hair glowed with the last of the sunshine from the day. The more casual outfits were a really great choice for this location too, and let us run around more. Marybeth kicked off her shoes at the end too, which I always love in an engagement session!
I also wanted to share a little bit from what Marybeth told me about how they met before they started dating:
“Leighton and I met at my senior night of football season. My high school was playing. Leighton went to our rival school, but he was visiting to watch the two county teams play against each other. Close to the end of the game, one of our linemen made an interception and scored (what seemed to be) a 70-yard touchdown. After the touchdown, a player from the other team went to talk to the referee, and the referee threw a flag, so the touchdown did not count. As the competitive person I am, I became extremely upset at the call. I, full of fury, threw my hands in frustration. The problem was that I had a full Dasani water bottle in my hand, and when I threw my hands up, the bottle slipped from my grasp and hit Leighton. I was so embarrassed!”
I was cracking up when I heard that story, so I definitely wanted to include it here!!

We really had such a great session and I’m so excited for wedding day in June! If this session looks like exactly the kind of fall engagement photos you’re wanting, I would love to get in touch. I can’t wait to make some more magic.
