Gadsden, Alabama
Sweets and Sprouts is a local bakery on Noccalula Mountain that’s very popular in Gadsden! The owner apprenticed at a specialty wedding cake shop in Washington DC, before going to culinary school and opening her bakery here in town. Besides wedding cakes, she puts out a menu once a month with the seasonal treats she’s making, and is typically open from 8 am to whenever she sells out. This frequently happens before noon!
Gadsden and Boaz locations
Cothran’s Bakery originated here in Gadsden, in 1962! They originally were a donut shop, but over the last 60ish years have been able to expand both their locations and their baked goods. They now have multiple bakeries throughout Etowah County (including two right in Gadsden) and are known in the area for their wedding cakes.
Oneonta, Alabama
Valor Bakery specifically does wedding and event cakes and catering! They are a family owned business based in Blount County, and deliver all of their cakes and goods rather than having a physical storefront. They are another one that has been in business 30+ years!

This is coming from someone who had 5 different Cheesecake Factory cheesecakes at their own wedding, so…
Trussville, Alabama
Edgar’s is a favorite throughout Alabama! The closest location to us in Gadsden is the Trussville Edgar’s, but I believe they typically do their cake testings at their Homewood location. Their bakery originated in Birmingham in 1998, and has expanded throughout the state since to become a well-known go-to. They help with cake design, and also offer wedding cake stand rentals.
I wrote this guide during my time photographing in Alabama. I’m now based in Seattle, Washington, serving the Pacific Northwest — but I’ve kept this post up because it’s still helpful for couples planning weddings in the area. If you’re planning a Washington wedding, I’d love to connect!
